A-Grade vs Standard Phone Screens: Which Should You Choose?

When you replace a phone screen with an independent repair service, you are usually offered more than one type of part. At Refits the choice is between A-grade and standard. Both will make your phone usable again, but they are not the same, and the right choice depends on your phone and how you use it.

What the two grades mean

A-grade is the higher quality option. It aims to look and feel as close as possible to how your phone was before the damage: similar brightness, colour and touch response.

Standard is the more affordable option. It restores full use of the phone, but you may notice some differences compared with the screen your phone came with.

Exactly how the two differ varies by model, so the technician will explain what is available for your phone at inspection, before you decide.

Where you might notice a difference

Brightness and outdoor visibility

Some standard parts are a little dimmer at maximum brightness. If you use maps or the camera outdoors in strong Hyderabad sunlight, this may matter to you. Indoors, many people do not notice.

Colour and blacks

On phones that came with an OLED or AMOLED screen, the type of replacement panel affects how deep the blacks look and how colours appear. If your phone came with OLED, ask whether a given part is OLED or LCD, because an LCD-type part in an OLED phone will look different. Our OLED display replacement page explains this further.

Thickness and fit

Some lower-cost parts are slightly thicker. Usually this is not visible, but it can occasionally make a tight case fit differently.

Touch feel

Touch response is usually fine on both, but A-grade parts tend to feel closer to how the phone felt when new for fast typing and gaming.

Battery use

A panel that needs higher brightness to look the same, or an LCD-type panel in place of OLED, can use a little more battery. For most people the difference is small.

Which one should you choose?

A-grade is usually the better fit if:

  • Your phone is fairly new and you plan to keep it for a few more years.
  • You use your phone heavily for photos, video, reading or gaming.
  • You often use your phone outdoors.
  • You may sell or exchange the phone later and want it to look as good as possible.

Standard is usually the better fit if:

  • The phone is older and you mainly need it working again.
  • It is a backup phone, a child's phone, or a phone for a family member who mostly uses calls and WhatsApp.
  • You are planning to upgrade within a year or so.
  • Budget is the main concern right now.

Neither choice is wrong. Many people choose standard for an older phone and are completely happy with it.

Does the grade change the warranty?

At Refits, both grades come with the same 90-day warranty on the same issue. If the same fault comes back within 90 days, we fix it again. Physical or liquid damage after the repair, such as a new drop, is not covered.

Be careful with labels

You may see replacement parts marketed with words that suggest they came from the phone maker. Independent repair shops, including Refits, use replacement parts and should describe them honestly. We simply call our options A-grade and standard and explain the differences in plain terms. If any seller uses a label you cannot check, ask what it actually means for brightness, colour and warranty.

How the choice works on the day

The technician visits your home or office, inspects the phone in front of you, and tells you which grades are in stock for your model and what each would cost. You decide, the part is fitted on the spot, and you test the screen before you pay. Most screen replacements take about 30 minutes after you approve the quote. Frequently asked questions

Can I see both options before choosing?

The technician will explain the options available for your model and their prices before starting. Availability depends on part stock.

Is a standard screen safe to use?

Yes. A standard screen is a working replacement part. The differences are mainly about display quality, not safety.

Will Face ID or fingerprint unlock work after replacement?

It depends on the model and the part. For phones with in-display fingerprint sensors, you will usually need to register your fingerprint again. The technician will tell you what to expect.

Can I upgrade from standard to A-grade later?

Yes, but it would be a second, separately priced repair. It is usually better to decide at the first visit.
