Signs your power or volume button needs repair
- You have to press the button hard, or several times, before it responds
- The button feels mushy, has no click, or is stuck down
- The phone keeps restarting, taking screenshots or opening the assistant by itself (a button stuck in the pressed position can do this)
- Volume changes on its own
- The button is loose, rattles, or has fallen out
- On some phones, the fingerprint sensor built into the power button has stopped working
When it might be something else
A tight case is a very common cause. Some cases press the button slightly all the time, which makes the phone act strangely; take the case off and test again. Dust and grime around the button can also make it stiff. If the phone will not turn on at all, the button may be fine and the battery may be fully drained; leave it on a known-good charger for half an hour first. If your phone restarts on its own even with the case off and no button pressed, the fault may be elsewhere, and the technician will say so.
How the doorstep button repair works
A trained, background-checked technician visits your home or office and tests the buttons, case-off, in front of you. They work out whether it is the outer button, the switch underneath, or the flex cable that connects it, and quote a price. Nothing is opened until you approve.
On most phones, the buttons connect through a thin flex cable inside the frame. Reaching it usually means opening the phone from the screen side or the back. Sometimes only the outer key needs replacing; other times the flex cable or switch is worn. On a few models, the switch is soldered to the main board, which is component-level work (see motherboard repair). Once done, you test every button and, if relevant, the side fingerprint sensor before paying.
Part options and what affects the price
Button flexes and keys come in A-grade or standard quality; the choice is yours. The price depends on your model, which part is faulty (outer key, flex cable, or a board-mounted switch), how much of the phone has to be opened, and the grade. There are no fixed prices; the technician confirms the final amount after inspection. A small visit charge is adjusted against the bill if you go ahead.

Warranty
Button repairs carry the 90-day Refits warranty on the same issue. If the same fault returns within 90 days, we fix it again. Physical or liquid damage after the repair is not covered.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use my phone without a working power button until the repair?
Usually yes. Many phones let you wake the screen by tapping or lifting, and iPhone has AssistiveTouch, which puts an on-screen button for lock and volume.
Is it just the button cap or the inside part?
If the button moves but does nothing, the switch or flex inside is usually the problem. If the cap is cracked or missing, the outer key may be all that is needed. The technician checks during inspection.
My side-mounted fingerprint reader stopped working. Can you fix it?
On phones where the fingerprint sensor is part of the power button, the technician can assess it. Whether it can be replaced depends on the model and part availability.
Will repair affect my data?
No, button repairs do not affect storage.
